Overview: This course is an introduction to Australian competition and consumer legislation. We examine:

• The purpose and objectives of competition and consumer law.
• The role and powers of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
• Penalties and remedies for breaches of competition and consumer law, and
• How individuals can be found personally liable for breaches of competition and consumer law.

Why is this course important? Competition and consumer legislation applies to the conduct of anyone - persons (at all levels with the organisation) as well as corporations themselves. The law prohibits your organisation from indemnifying you against any penalty imposed on you for breach of the restrictive trade practices provisions. This means that you can be held personally liable for a breach of competition and consumer legislation.

Suitable for: All employees. This course provides an overview of key terms and concepts in Australian competition and consumer law, so it is a good starting point for understanding issues in this area. Additional courses may also be required for different roles and responsibilities to obtain a more complete understanding of this area.
