Overview: This course provides an overview about privacy in the workplace and recruitment, including what is personal information and why it requires protection. We also examine what sensitive information is and how that compares to personal information. We examine how personal information is protected in Australia and how organisations can use personal information, including in areas of recruitment and sharing employee information. Finally, you will learn what you can do to help protect your own - and other people's - personal information.

Why is this course important? As more personal information is collected now more than ever and there are strict requirements in dealing with personal information for organisations and their employees. A failure to understand and protect personal information can result in financial, personal and reputational risk, as well as legal proceedings resulting in civil penalties.

Suitable for: All employees, but particularly employees in management or human resources positions (this course has additional detail on sharing employee information). This course is general in nature and does not cover any specific areas where privacy-related issues may arise in your particular workplace.  

In addition to this training module, you should become familiar with any training, policies and other material that is relevant to your particular workplace and role.
