Overview: This course introduces the permit to work (PTW) system for workers who will be performing work under a permit. It covers the purpose of PTW systems, the roles involved, the permit lifecycle, and the obligations of workers operating under a permit. It is designed as a pre-mobilisation induction for workers entering sites where PTW systems are in place, providing the foundational knowledge required before receiving site-specific PTW training. It does not replace site-specific permit procedures, authorities, or competency requirements. 

By the end of this module you'll understand: what a permit to work (PTW) is and why it exists; work needing a permit; PTW roles and your duties; the permit lifecycle; how to read a permit;  key dos and don'ts.

Why is this course important? Understanding how a permit to work system operates helps you work safely under one from your first day on a new site and reduces the risk of starting work before the right checks and controls are genuinely in place.

Suitable for: For workers who will be performing work under a permit to work system, particularly those entering a new site or industry where PTW systems are in place. It is designed as a pre-mobilisation induction and does not qualify learners to issue permits or act as a permit authority. Learners must complete site-specific PTW training before performing work under a permit.
