Overview: This course introduces the risks associated with mobile plant and powered equipment in the workplace, as well as the practical steps that keep you safe if you work near it. It covers how incidents happen (through collision, entrapment, and electrocution) and the controls that prevent them, including exclusion zones, clear communication with operators, and personal protective equipment. It also covers your role in keeping plant in safe working condition through inspection, defect reporting, and using your own stop work authority.

Why is this course important? Plant and equipment are one of the leading causes of workplace death and injury in Australia, and many of these incidents involve people working near plant rather than operating it. Understanding these hazards and controls helps you recognise risk before it becomes an incident and reinforces that staying safe around plant is a shared responsibility between operators and everyone working nearby.

Suitable for: Workers across construction, manufacturing, mining, logistics, and other industrial environments who work near, but do not operate, mobile plant and powered equipment. It is introductory only, can't be relied on as your sole source of training in this area, and does not replace the site-specific induction, training, and procedures your employer or site requires.
