Overview: In this course we explain how managers identify, assess, control, and review psychosocial risks in the workplace under Model Australian work health and safety (WHS) legislation. It is based on the Model WHS Act, Regulations, and Model Code of Practice as adopted in New South Wales, Queensland, the Australian Capital Territory, South Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory and Western Australia. The course focuses on managing work-related psychosocial risks arising from work design, systems, behaviours, and organisational change.

Why is this course important? Psychosocial hazards are an enforceable part of duties under the Model WHS laws in these jurisdictions. Poorly managed psychosocial risks can lead to psychological and physical harm, increased absenteeism, turnover, complaints, and regulatory action. This topic supports managers to meet their obligations and apply practical risk management approaches that reduce harm and support safe, sustainable work.

Suitable for: Managers, supervisors, team leaders, and anyone with responsibility for designing work, allocating tasks, managing people, or implementing change in organisations operating under Model WHS legislation.

* This course does not apply to Victoria, which operates under separate occupational health and safety legislation, or to Commonwealth-regulated workplaces, which are subject to different regulatory guidance.
