Overview: This is an 'Essentials' style course reviewing psychosocial workplace hazards under Australia's model work health and safety (WHS) laws. The model laws apply in all Australian jurisdictions except Victoria, which has its own Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic).

You'll review the duty of care that applies to your organisation and to you personally, and how the 10 common psychosocial hazards, from job demands and low job control to harmful behaviours and poor organisational justice, can each effect workers. You'll also review how to spot these hazards developing in your own team.

Why is this course important? Psychosocial hazards are treated by law in the same way as physical hazards and can cause serious psychological and physical harm if left unmanaged. They're often less visible than physical hazards, which means managers need to actively look for them rather than waiting for an obvious sign of harm. As a manager, you're often best placed to notice a developing issue and respond to it before it causes lasting harm.

Suitable for: All managers and supervisors in Australian organisations covered by the model WHS laws who need an efficient refresher on psychosocial WHS hazards.

Jurisdictions that have adopted the model laws can still vary them, so always check the WHS laws and codes of practice that apply in your own state or territory.

This Essentials course assumes learners have already completed previous training on this subject (and is designed as a periodic refresher).

Note: Employees who are not in a management role should complete WHS: psychosocial hazards for employees - Essentials (Model AU).
